Mortal Shell 2 Tarstones Guide
Count conflict: launch guides currently report 75 Tarstones, while some live map databases label 77 markers. One map database also displays category totals that add up to 75. Until a patch-specific official list resolves this, use the in-game Stoned achievement state and inventory slots as the completion authority.
How Tarstones work
Tarstones customize weapons and sidearms rather than replacing them. They are grouped into Support, Combat, Infusion, and Ability types. Compatibility differs by weapon, so a strong stone is only useful if the chosen equipment exposes the required slot.
- Support: passive bonuses such as critical, defense, resource, or reward effects.
- Combat: effects triggered by attacks, kills, status, or repeated actions.
- Infusion: spends Resolve to apply an elemental or status effect.
- Ability: active Resolve-powered attacks tied to compatible gear.

Build planning rules
- Choose the weapon ability first, then fill passive slots around how that ability spends Resolve.
- Do not fully upgrade every early stone; reserve materials until the main weapon and sidearm pairing is stable.
- Keep one general exploration setup and one boss setup instead of treating a single loadout as universal.
- Before NG+, collect unique stones you can already reach; owned Tarstones carry over and their old pickup locations may become upgrade materials.
Why this is not labeled an all-locations list yet
Several launch-week lists still mark entries as unconfirmed, and published totals conflict. This page therefore prioritizes named, cross-checkable stones and explains the system. It will only be promoted to a complete tracker when every in-game name, category, and location can be tied to a stable build.
Evidence: mechanics are consistent with the official Steam description of extensive weapon upgrades. Named effects and locations were checked against GamesRadar's launch guide and the current Fallgrim map database. Count disagreement is intentionally preserved. Verified August 23, 2026.
